![]() The Hope College Department of Theatre's production “Roustabout: The Great Circus Train Wreck!” opened this week and continues with a performance today, Oct. Miller Center for Musical Arts is at 221 Columbia Ave. ![]() The students in the ensemble include Ivan Akansiima, guitar Quinn Humphrey, drums and Clif Metcalf, organ. The OGD Trio is coached by faculty member Robert Hodson. The students in the ensemble include Ivan Akansiima, piano Josiah Panning, bass and Zach Snoek, drums. The Piano Trio is coached by faculty member Keith Hall. A member of the Hope jazz faculty coaches each student ensemble. The ensembles also place an emphasis on original student and faculty compositions. The more advanced jazz chamber ensembles also perform repertoire from the contemporary jazz world. All of the ensembles perform works from the classic jazz repertoire. The ensembles vary in size and instrumentation and place a creative focus on improvisation and group communication. The jazz chamber ensembles at Hope afford students the opportunity to perform in the classic small group combo setting. The OGD Trio will perform “A Deeper Blue,” by Deep Blue Organ Trio “There will Never be Another You,” by Harry Warren “Root Down and Get It,” by Jimmy Smith “Blue Moments,” by Lonnie Smith and “Tell Me Something Good,” by Stevie Wonder. The Piano Trio will perform “Solar,” by Miles Davis “Smash,” by Avishai Cohen “I will Remember Henry,” by Ivan Akansiima “You’re the Sunshine of My Life,” by Stevie Wonder “Bemsha Swing,” by Thelonious Monk and Denzil Best and “Jean Pierre,” by Miles Davis. The public is invited to the free concert. 13, in the John and Dede Howard Recital Hall of the Jack H. Two Hope College Jazz Chamber Ensembles will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and one hour prior to show times on the weekends. Tickets are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors, $10 for students. The last time this group was together was for a Broadway flop, in which three chorus girls were murdered by the mysterious “Stage Door Slasher.” Frau VonGrossenknuetten and Detective Kelly set a trap to catch the “Stage Door Slasher.” Elsa and Detective Michael Kelly have invited a group seeking financial backing for a new show. The scene is the upscale library of the wealthy, qurky Elsa VonGrossenknuetten and her German maid, Helsa Wenzel. The mystery continues at Holland Civic Theatre with its production of "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940."
